In 2010 the Japanese Company Kotobukiya presented a trio of collectibles devoted to the Avengers' team and identified by the highfalutin nickname Reborn, characterized by a dynamic pose and a similar base, so as to be exhibited (eventually) as a single, large diorama. The first piece to be released was Thor, sculpted by Shinya Akao, with an edition size limited to 1200 samples. The God of Thunder exhibits the suit of the Modern version of Comics and, to the best of my knowledge, this was the first 1:6 scale collectible to offer this attractive feature on the market. The hero is represented with the rotated bust, the left leg fully stretched backwards and the left foot resting on top of the ruins of an ancient stairs; the left arm is bent back with the closed fist, while the right arm is horizontally placed in front of the head, holding the legendary Mjolnir. The dynamism of the pose highlights the majesty of the hero's body: a huge rib cage with hyper-defined pectorals and abdominals, wide shoulders, powerful biceps and very bumped muscles on both legs, here engaged in supporting the weight of the moving body. The attractive design and the bright colors of the modern costume offer an outstanding visual impact. The suit, in fact, is constituted by a close-fitting waistcoat with the typycal and frontal circles (here embellished with two zig-zagged, golden thin strips), a sort of floating kilt and a silvery mesh with a rectangular texture on both arms and legs, which offers a great chromatic contrast with the dominant background black color. The excellent polychromy of the statue is completed by the large cloak, rich of folds and fully surrounding the figure, and the long, blonde hair lying on the back of the hero. A great attention was paid to details. Note the fine leather belt at waist with a large, trapezoidal golden buckle, the elegant and rounded shape of the rigid knee-pads, the silvery circles decorating the boots at ankles level, the good proportions and the lace at bottom of Mjolnir, the realistic folds of the suit on busto and on the kilt and more in general, the sculpt of the cloak, whose "wrinkled" shape notably increases the dynamism of the whole. The face is very attractive, with somehow squared somatic traits, and is characterized by two well-colored blue eyes, long blond hair and eyebrows, the oval, top-pointed helmet partially covering the nose and, above all, the classic white wings on both sides, here carved in a masterful way. The base represents a rocky terrain with (as said) the ruins of a stairs and is enriched by a large, circular plate vertically placed and colored with a copper tone. It is not easy to find this statue on collectibles' market and the quotations, in general, are rather high; this demonstrates the general appreciation of collectors' community for the piece, which (in my opinion) is not only a charming representation of the Son of Odin, but also one of the best Marvel statue ever realized by the Japanese Company!
